Question: What did you want to be when you grew up?
I've answered this question in different ways as a child and as an adult. For the past several years, though, I've been telling pretty much anyone who will listen that my dream job, the one that I would do if money weren't an object, is to learn stuff, filter out the junk and BS, and curate those learnings into teachings that can help those around me.
I'd want to curate lessons about ways to:
Make life feel easier;
Make people feel more connected and worthy despite our oppressive systems;
Help folks achieve dream goals;
Help folks transition out of jobs they hate and into roles or businesses they love;
Assist my community with understanding ways to be more compassionate toward themselves and, by extension, others; and
Help my community learn how to love themselves without being magical or palatable to everyone.
I'd want to help women of color and marginalized folks thrive in a society not set up for us to win. I'd want to discuss happenings in pop culture and current events in ways that make us think about ourselves with more grace and nuance, and do it all with a touch of humor, art, and style because they are the seasonings of life.
After discussing this idea with my coach, I realized that this is the exact job I do with my private clients, and I love it. But the vision for my dream job isn't limited to one-on-one sessions. I want to expand my reach and deepen my connection by creating a community, an ongoing conversation and connection with folks designed to uplift us all.
That conversation with my coach also made me realize that I had already started bringing this idea to life through this newsletter without knowing it. Almost every week, I hear from you with your thoughts and comments about how one of my posts affected you, made you laugh, or think differently.
So I've decided to build on that by creating a community —a place for you and me—here on Substack. Through the Woke Up Worthy Community, you'll receive access to the members-only archive of my past posts, long-form articles that go deeper into topics we discuss here on the blog, monthly and on-demand discussions, and access to trainings and resources from my signature framework, The Courage Practice, served up with some humor, style and grace.
The community will launch mid-July/early August 2024 for $29/month, but if you want to be a founding member and receive 20% off a yearly subscription during the pre-launch sale, you can do that now by clicking the link below.
Please know that if you sign up for a yearly subscription, I'm not running off with your cash. I've been writing a weekly blog since 2018 and running my coach business since then too. I'm committed, and I stick around.
This community also isn't just one elaborate online time-share pitch like some webinars you see now. You know, the ones where they promise to teach you something but end up holding you hostage for an hour to tell you how excellent their method is without actually explaining the technique.
This is not that, and I am not that girl.
I believe in a commerce model based on reciprocity, not extraction. So, this community will run on appreciation and trust. I do my work and provide the resources, and the membership fee shows your appreciation and helps me keep going.
You trust me. I trust you. That's it.
If you'd like to be a founding member, I'd love to have you. Click the link below to get your yearly Woke Up Worthy community subscription for 20% off. You can also reply to this newsletter if you have questions.
In power and solidarity,
Toya
