Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting a gathering for a few moms of color for a local mom's group. We called the event a 'Community Check-In" because we wanted to create a space for connection and genuine conversation.
In prepping for the event, I realized how challenging it is to have real conversations and make friends as an adult. While we might meet up with folks socially for happy hours and brunches, the deeper conversations that reveal who we are and what's really going on in our lives often remain reserved for long-standing friends or family members.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with this. Old friends hold a special place in our hearts for a reason.
However, the ongoing loneliness crisis in our country suggests that despite those old friendships, we need additional spaces to express ourselves and find support.
