On Thanksgiving Day, my husband called me outside, claiming he needed help with the turkey he was grilling. Instead of leading me to the backyard, I followed him through the front door to see my older sister and nephew standing with their luggage.

I was completely shocked and surprised.

This Thanksgiving was the first time we hosted both sides of our family for a holiday since we moved from the East Coast to the West Coast. I thought my sister couldn’t make the trip, but there she was on my sidewalk.

I ran to them, tears flowing, smile beaming, completely caught up in the pure joy of seeing my sister and nephew, while my hubby smiled knowingly behind me. It was a beautiful moment of genuine connection and love.
