I grew up in Irvington, New Jersey, just outside of Newark. One of the most exciting redevelopments to come to Newark in my lifetime was the Prudential Center. When the Arena opened in 2007, it was a sign of revitalization for an area depressed since the 1967 riots.

The Prudential Center is the home of the New Jersey Devils hockey team. It serves as an arena venue for concerts, basketball games, and soccer matches. It's also where I took my mother to see Tina Turner in 2008, my best concert experience to date.

Before that concert, Tina Turner's music resided in the background of my life. I knew her songs and would sing along when they came on, the way you do when you're at a wedding and hear a full playlist of songs you forgot you loved.
