We all love a shortcut. That’s why those “Best Of” articles are so popular. You know the ones that pop up when you search things like, “the best tacos in your city this year” on Google.
Those lists shortcut your research. You don’t have to waste your time or money going to inferior taco joints. The research is done for you. So all you have to do is enjoy a good meal.
But shortcuts don’t work for real-life problems.
How often have you found yourself staring out the window at work (or at home) dreaming of being any place but here?
Didn't you just say to yourself that you would start that new project, business, job search, or just hang out with your family once you “got your sh*t together?” Were more productive? Got better sleep? Maybe drank more water?
While beneficial, productivity hacks and organization routines are just shortcuts like finding a 5-star taco stand via Google. They are short term solutions to deeper problems.
What you really want is lasting change. A deep internal shift that can finally make you feel “unstuck” and help you move toward the life you are meant to live.
The kind of change that shows you just how capable you are, cultivates a sense of self-trust so you can leap into the unknown, doesn’t bend to the world’s perceptions, and forever changes how you see yourself and how you approach life. That’s the kind of change that gets you unstuck.
A change like that is big. It’s leaving the job you hate or the relationship that doesn't work anymore.
It's applying for that fellowship, moving your family to a new country, or investing in that course that feels too expensive.
It's the one big change you know, deep down, will make all the other changes easier.
Despite this knowing, whispers of doubt, societal norms, and that pesky internalized oppression start to creep in and stop you from making that shift.
Those things hold all of us back. But the greatest gifts you can give yourself is developing the courage and getting the support you need to do it anyway because you always are worthy of the deepest desires of your heart.
These are the kind of changes I support at Woke Up Worthy. Through coaching, I support women of color in creating lasting change in their lives. No shortcuts. No quick fixes.
We help women of color step into the lives and careers that are waiting for them so they can stop pretending and start living into their dreams.

Here are a few of the real benefits clients have achieved by working with me:
Working with Toya Gavin provided me with a bounty of tangible resources to help support the growth of my business. The thing that I appreciated the most was that my experience as a woman of color was addressed. For decades, I attempted to adopt constructs and models that were "supposed" to guarantee success, but they never fit. I would gain traction, and monetary wins, only to fall back into overwhelm, self-doubt, and burnout. But when I started working with Toya, she unveiled how internalized racism and societal conditioning were influencing my choices and negatively impacting my ability to thrive. She then helped me shape a sustainable business model that honors who I am, my values, and the life I desire to create for myself. Toya helped to infuse hope back into my business. She provided me with valuable strategies to centralize my well-being and joy while supporting scalable business growth.I have greater confidence, ease, and trust when relating to my purpose-led business now, and I'm so very grateful for all the support she's given me. - Dr. Natasha Kassam Paris
My favorite part about working with Toya is her ability to help me create efficiencies of scale for my personal life so that I can spend time on those things that are more meaningful to me. This service has helped me to rethink my brand and my messaging and to focus my message/communication with intention. I would tell my friends to consider working with Toya to help them move out of their comfort and to take a chance on themselves. They can’t lose. - Lisa Deveaux
I’ve also helped clients:
Learn to show up fully every day and in every space as instead of reflexively code-switching to make those with more power and privilege in the room feel more comfortable
Stop holding themselves back from going all-in on their dreams because they didn’t know the “right way” to achieve them.
Release the idea that they needed to “get their sh*t together” before working toward their dream goal. Instead, they started to ground themselves in the belief that they are worthy of that dream right here, right now.
Ignore seemingly well-meaning advice that tells them they must behave and look a certain way to be successful. Those expectations are usually grounded in respectability politics, and we don’t play those games.
Start companies, transition to new careers, create business development plans resulting in new clients, and negotiate a 15K per year increase in a salary offer; and
Return to loving themselves exactly as she is today.
